Kennel cough fears forces postponement of Crayford sales
AIGS has postponed its sale at Crayford on Monday on the instruction of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain.
The move has been made in the light of a major spike in the number of cases of a kennel cough which has sadly caused the death of two greyhounds.
Paul Illingworth, the senior stipendiary steward, said: “This decision has not been taken lightly and has taken into consideration the advice that we have received from our Veterinary experts and the nature of the current outbreak of kennel cough in greyhounds. It is known that new greyhounds introduced into kennel population are at the highest risk of developing this severe strain of kennel cough and as such the staging of a Sales meeting would not be appropriate at this time.”
Given the uncertainty of the situation, it is not possible to give a date for the rescheduling of the sale.
Perry Barr/Romford added as AIGS announces 2021 schedule
ANGLO IRISH GREYHOUND SALES is delighted to announce its schedule of auctions for 2021.
Our programme is a mix of old favourite tracks and two venues that are new to us, Perry Barr and Romford.
The Government has pencilled in May 17 as the date from which spectators can return to stadia following the latest COVID-19 lockdown. The first of our six sales this year is at Perry Barr on June 9, so, all being well, we expect people to be allowed to attend all of them.
Those unable to make Perry Barr, or any of the other sales, can take advantage of our partnership with LSL Auctions, with whom we have teamed up to provide remote bidding.
LSL brings a wealth of experience to the table and is also the chosen online bidding partner of Greyhound Racing Ireland, amongst others.
Live streaming of sales trials and subsequent auction will as usual be available on our channel on YouTube, this website and the LSL website (lslauctions.com).
The 2021 schedule is as follows.
Crayford - Monday, August 2
Hove - Sunday, September 26
Sheffield - Sunday, October 24
Monmore - Thursday, November 11
Romford - Wednesday, December 8
AIGS is the UK sales company with the proven track record. Since we started in 2017, we have staged 22 sales over three trading years – 2020 was a write off because of COVID-19.
In that time, we have sold 717 greyhounds worth £964,430, which gives us an average sale price of a healthy £1345. That is something we plan to build on with the help of LSL over the next six months.
